Message from the Chair

Hello to all NH50Plus members.
I haven’t heard from any of you when I challenged to try new things during lock down so I can only presume that you are all so busy that we will be overwhelmed with your creations and writings etc when we are able to get together again. We really would love to hear from you all. Why not give us a call sometime?
I did mention the dolls house that I was going to put together, and started off with great enthusiasm only to find that the main body that I had asked my husband to assemble, (leaving me with the interesting bits!) has gone!!! So, there is a tray of little fitments on my dining table waiting for the main body that I can attach the bits to! I have looked everywhere (except in the loft which I haven’t been in for years) so where it has got to remains to be seen. I’ve even sent messages into the spirit world but so far, no response……
However, the garden is doing well, the broad beans in blossom and I have had several pickings of salad leaves as well as a couple of servings of pak choi and the rhubarb is doing well. The french beans are taking their time and so far, the carrots are only is showing, but the garlic and the onions are well advanced despite a late setting of the bulbs.
I hope you who are ‘shielded’ are getting the help you need to get foodstuffs and prescriptions, and the post dealt with. I have found the Letchworth Heritage people most helpful, and I know that a couple of local estate agents are also helping out. If you need any contact details please get in touch with myself or Sweenie and we will give you some useful contacts.
We are hoping that maybe by September everything may be back to normal, so hopefully we can start up our monthly meetings again, but please don’t do anything till we have all been given the green light by the health authorities.
Do get in touch and let us know what you have been doing to fill these lovely summery days. Have you read any really good books or can you recommend any special authors? I am working my way through a series of books, very light stuff but well written, and quite amusing, The Daisy Dalrymple series by Carola Dunn. The heroine is a young woman in the 1920s who gets involved in various murders and mysteries. What’s your favourite author at present?
Till next time, keep well and remind yourselves that nothing lasts forever, so there will be light at the end of the tunnel eventually.
Take care and stay safe!!
